What You Need To Know About Oldsmobile : Oldsmobile was founded by Mr. Ransom E. Olds in 1897. The automotive company has produced more than 35 million cars with 14 million of them being built in Lansing Michigan. “Olds” was removed in 2004. A classic Oldsmobile fan favorite is the Deluxe 88 which was made in the 1950s with the following Super 88.

There are other full-size models like the Fiesta and Holiday. The “88” was retired in 1999 claiming the title of the longest model name used on an American car in history.

In the sixties, Oldsmobile introduced the first turbo-charged engine, the Vista Cruiser, the Toronado’s first front-wheel drive and the 442 muscle car. The 442 was born in 1964 with a 4-barrel carburetor, 2 exhausts and a 4-speed manual transmission. In 1968, the 442 became a character all its own and was produced with the 455 CID V-8 engine in 1970.

The Cutlas was first produced in 1961 with production taking place throughout 1999. This car was the company’s top seller in the seventies and eighties. The Cutlas Supreme was expanded to include a pillared coupe containing a two-door hardtop, and a four-door convertible sedan. In both 1966-67, it came with a 7.0L 425 CID engine as an option.

The first Oldsmobile Hurst was available in 1968. This car has the same body design as the Cutlas and 442, but has a black and Peruvian Silver color scheme. It contained a 390 horsepower, Rocket V-8 engine. The Turbo Hydramatic 400 OW three-speed transmission allows manual or automatic shifting.
